Alicante is a big town situated in the Valencian Community. Alicante has its own airport with many connections to European cities. Alicante has good train connections with Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

The Alicante Tram connects the city with places along the Costa Blanca such as Benidorm and Dénia. From the historic Mediterranean port, you can take ferry services to the Balearic Islands.

What you cannot miss in Alicante is the Castle of Santa Bárbara dominating over the city from Mount Benacantil.

The oldest part is the tower La Torreta, some parts of the lower zone and walls were constructed in the 18th century. South-west of Santa Barbára is the colourful quarter Barrio de la Santa Cruz. The quarter has narrow streets with small houses that crowd around the walls of the old castle.

The L’Ereta Park is situated on the foothills of Mount Benacantil. The park runs from the castle down to the old city and consists of several levels, routes and rest stops and offer a great view over the city of Alicante.

The promenade Esplanada de España is one of the loveliest promenades in Spain with its palm trees and its marble floor tiles. It is the place to meet for the traditional paseo, to stroll along the waterfront and listen to some good live music.

If you are interested in museums you can visit the Archaeological Musuem with an exhibition of local artifacts dating back from 100.000 years until the 19th century, there are dioramas, audiovisual and interactive zones. Paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 19th century you will find in the Gravina Museum of Fine Arts.

At walking distance from the town center is the Playa Postiguet, a popular beach along the promenade with good facilities, beach bars and nice restaurants. A few miles up the coast is the Playa La Albufereta at a small bay, ideal for water sports and leisure.
