Benidorm

Benidorm is a resort on the Spanish Costa Blanca. The city has 71,000 inhabitants and is one of the most famous seaside resorts in Europe. The historic center of Benidorm is situated on a promontory that separates the two main beaches. These are the Levante beach (the "new" Benidorm) and the Poniente beach (the "old" Benidorm). The historic center is the old fishing village.

Due to the large number of high buildings, Benidorm is the number one place in the world with the most skyscrapers. Per 180 inhabitants, there is a building of more than 35 meters high. Benidorm itself is overshadowed by the 1,406 meters high Puig Campana, the most impressive mountain of the Costa Blanca.

Archaeological finds have shown that there was already habitation in the area around 3,000 BC; there are remains from the Roman and Punic period. In 1245 the Christians conquered the site. By the 18th century, it was a famous fishing village, well known for its tuna fishing.

The city has a total length of six kilometers of golden sandy beaches. The beaches wave the blue flag, indicating that cleanliness and safety are optimal. There are plenty of water sports such as water skiing, scuba diving and parasailing. The Aqualandia Water Park is one of the best attractions for a great day out.

Mundomar is a theme park populated with dolphins, penguins, sea lions and tropical birds. Furthermore, you have the parks Terra Mitica and Terra Natura.

The L'Aigüera Park is a large park in neoclassical style created by the architect Ricardo Bofill. The park separates the old town of the new modern buildings. It consists of an elegant avenue with stepwise terraces, flanked by huge urns. There is also an open amphitheater in Roman style, where in the summer concerts take place. The park is a nice place to enjoy a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle of the beach life

3.5 km from the coast is the Isla de Benidorm, an idyllic place to spend a day. The island has a rich flora and fauna. You can make a trip to the island aboard a catamaran. You can snorkel and dive. There are several restaurants and a diving school. Every hour you can take a boat to the island from the port of Benidorm .
