Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol (the "sun coast") is located between Málaga and Granada. It is a popular holiday destination with its eternal sandy beaches. Towns like Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella and Nerja are popular holiday resorts here. Marbella is still the place where the super rich have their playgrounds and the city receives many famous visitors.

The best beaches are located in Torremolinos, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Estepona and Fuengirola, these places score also high on the list of recommended hotels, apartments and villas. The Costa del Sol offers many water sports opportunities. Everywhere you will find good conditions for windsurfing, water skiing, jet skiing, pedal boating and canoeing. Popular are also catamaran trips or even more interesting a real mini cruise.

There is a great contrast in the local cuisine of the Costa de Sol. Freshly caught fish is the main dish at the coast; grilled or marinated anchovies, red mullet, squid and sardines with rice, cold soups and salads. Fishermen and hunters guarantee a good supply of rabbit and trout in the mountain areas. Goat cheese is one of the best products out there. The best wines in the area are the Moscatel, Campanilla and Pedrito. But also the different types of sherry go well with many dishes.

Nightlife is concentrated in central Torremolinos with 200 restaurants, 40 discos, some night-clubs, snack bars and pubs, especially in the area around the Calle San Miguel and La Nogalera you will find many places to entertain yourself. The most famous nightclub is the Paladium. For techno, one can visit the Voltage Nightclub. Nerja's nightlife is located around Calle Antonio Millon and Plaza Tutti Frutti. There are plenty of good restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes. Málaga offers the same, but is also known for its excellent seafood restaurants. The best nightclubs in Puerto Banus are Seven, Tibu and Suite.

Málaga is also a great place for extensive shopping. There are many boutiques and fashion houses. Málaga is famous for its plaited esparto grass products. Ubrique for its leather products, Mijas for embroidery. In Grazalema you can find blankets with ancient designs.

Málaga is a great city for your historical and cultural explorations. The Picasso Museum, the Cathedral and the medieval citadel Gibralfaro. The Teatro Romano is the oldest monument of the city dating from 100 BC.

Nerja has its famous Cuevas de Nerja. These limestone caves are 20,000 years old and contain primitive paintings. The caves are one of Spain's most visited attractions.
