Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands and lies 7 km south of Ibiza. The island is 19 km long and has 19,000 inhabitants. The highest point is the steep rock at the coast La Mola, 192 meters.

Formentera is known for its sandy beaches and nature. It is said that the island is the last bastion of the earthly paradise in the Mediterranean. The coastline of Formentera is considered a paradise for sailers with its clear waters, sheltered coves and many white beaches.

One of the best beaches is the Ses Illetes beach. It lies on the northern tip of the island, is the most popular and most visited by tourists. It is 500 meters long, with beautiful white sand and excellent water. It offers many water sports facilities. Playa Migjorn situated on the south coast is 5 km long, with fine white sand, a number of beautiful bays and clear water.

Ses Illetes and Es Pujols are the best locations for water sports in Formentera with the best services and rental options. Also in other places, you will find facilities. Surfing, kite surfing, kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing, scuba diving, you name it, you can find it somewhere.

The strip of water between Ibiza and Formentera is an underwater sanctuary with a number of small islands. Porcs, Penjats, Ses Espalmador, Castavi, etc, remnants of the former connection between the two islands. The coasts and seabed are a well-guarded area where you can snorkel, scuba dive, etc. Keep in mind that some activities require a permit.

The nature of the island offers many opportunities to have a walk or bike tour. The pine forests, salt marshes, sand dunes with Sabina trees, cliffs and rocky coast are just waiting to be discovered by visitors. La Mola lighthouse stands on the highest point of the island to the west. From the cliffs, you have fantastic views over the island and the Mediterranean Sea.

Sant Francesc is the capital of Formentera. In the summer months, tourists visit the hippy market with a wide choice of trinkets, clothing and woolen goods. The city has a fascinating church and a 18th century fortress. The church dates from 1738 and has an austere look. The thickness of the walls indicates that it used be a defensive work. The Ethnological Museum is also in the city and it attracts many visitors.
