Fuerteventura is one of the islands belonging to the Canary Islands. It is about 100 km from the northwest coast of Africa.

It is believed that the first inhabitants came from North Africa. They lived in caves and semi-subterranean dwellings, a few of which were found with remains of tools and pottery.

Fuerteventura offers visitors a mix of beautiful beaches, water sports and natural beauty in a dramatic volcanic area, dotted with small white villages, windmills and palm trees.

There are miles of golden and white beaches; the winds from the Sahara create wonderful waves for windsurfing just like at the famous Playa de Sotavento in Corrralejo.

The best way to learn the history and culture of the island is to visit the historical town Betancuria and the museums and workshops of the local artisans.

The 17th century church of Santa Maria is also worth visiting. In Tefia is the ecological Alcogida Museum with examples of traditional rural life.

The Lobos Island lies just north of Fuerteventura and is separated from the main island by a narrow passage (El Roi). The island has beautiful beaches and clear water. It is primarily for tourism. You can have a great day on the beach and you will find food and drink in restaurants.

Experience Fuerteventura with a Jeep Safari you can book in Corralejo or Calte. Another attraction is a an underwater safari per submarine.

The windmill center, Centro de Interpretación Los Molinos, is located in Tiscamanita. Here one can watch the grinding of flour in a traditional and modern way.
