Murcia is an autonomous region and also a province in southeastern Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. The capital is the city of Murcia and the population of the region is 1.4 million people.

Murcia is one of the largest cities in Spain. There is a huge bell tower and a famous cathedral. The cathedral was built in the 14th century in Gothic style. The tower was only finished in 1800 and has several architectural styles, Renaissance and Baroque. The pavilion was built in rococo and neoclassical.

The Santa Clara convent was built in the 14th century in Gothic style. In the monastery is an exhibition of Moorish art, part consists of ceramics and tools from various periods; another part consists of the history of the monastery and religious art.

Cartagena has a Roman theater from the 2nd century BC that is still in fairly good condition. There are other Roman buildings, like the Augusteum, the Torre Ciega and the House of Fortuna. The Concepción Castle was reconstructed in the 13th century with material of the amphitheater; it is now the center for interpretation of the Carthaginian history. In addition to the museum, there are also two important archaeological museums, the Municipal Museum and the Museum Arqué.

Lorca is an old medieval town with a large square, the Plaza Mayor, which was designed in the 18th century and where the main buildings of the city were built. The town hall, the granaries, the prison and the church. The church of San Francisco is worth to visit. This was built in 1561 but there is now almost nothing of the original building preserved. The church was rebuilt in the 17th century. Especially the inside of the church is beautiful, with particular baroque altarpieces.

Murcia is still not really influenced by tourism. Much of the beaches and nature still have their authentic beauty. There is a coastline of 250 km with nature reserves and great underwater sanctuaries. There is an inland sea called the Mar Menor with beautiful beaches and a unique flora and fauna.
