Vitoria is a place located in the north of Spain and the capital of the province of Alava in the Basque Country. The city is still not really discovered by mass tourism.

Vitoria offers many architectural highlights, especially churches. The famous cathedral is the Santa Maria Cathedral. This cathedral is a 14th century Gothic building with a 17th century tower. In the interior are chapels containing Gothic, Flemish and Italian Renaissance images including paintings by Rubens and van Dyck.

There are many museums to visit in Vitoria. Some of these are the Artium Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts.

The Artium Museum has several exhibitions: firstly, there is the collection of contemporary art, secondly, the temporary exhibitions and finally an intensive programme of educational and cultural activities.

The Museum of Fine Arts is located in a Renaissance mansion. It displays 14th century carvings, Flemish 16th century triptychs, panels of Spanish masters such as Jusepe de Ribera and modern Spanish paintings.

The main square is the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, a pleasant place surrounded by old houses with glass verandas. At its center stands a monument commemorating the Battle of Vitoria.

The Fiestas de la Virgen Blanca festival is celebrated every year from the 4th to the 9th of August in honour of the patron saint of the city, and features a programme of special events, activities and free open-air concerts.
