Zaragosa is the capital of the region of Aragón in Spain. The city is situated on the Ebro River and there is a diversity of landscapes around it like desert areas, forests, mountains and barren plains. The first inhabitants were the Romans, the named city Caesar Augusta.

Especially the location of Zaragosa on the river is what the city makes so beautiful and attractive. Small bridges connect the center with the suburbs and from there you have a beautiful view over the skyline with the historic buildings. If you like history and architecture Zaragosa keeps you quite busy exploring it all.

The Basilica del Pilar at the riverbank was built in the 17th and 18th centuries in Baroque style. The church was declared a national monument and is one of the most religious places in Spain after Santiago de Compostela. From the church tower you have a magnificent view over the city.

Zaragosa offers a number of interesting museums. The two most popular museums are the Zaragosa Museum of Art and the Camon Aznar Museum. In both museums are mainly paintings exhibited.

In the Museum of Art there are mainly paintings from the 15th century, from artists of the region. There are also some famous paintings by Goya and Ribera.

The Camon Aznar Museum features works by major artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Velazquez.

The Palacio de la Aljafería was built in the 9th century by the Arab king Al-Muqtadir. The palace was the home of the kings Ferdinand II and Peter IV and became the seat of the Spanish Inquisition afterwards. Nowadays it is the regional government which resides there.
